SDG Report 2025: A Comprehensive Global Assessment
2:08
The Sustainable Development Goals Report 2025 provides a clear and data driven assessment of global progress toward the 2030 Agenda, marking a critical moment as the world enters the final five years of implementation. While notable achievements have been made over the past decade—including expanded access to electricity, improvements in child and maternal health, and increased school participation—overall progress remains insufficient, uneven and, in several areas, reversing. Only 35 per cent of SDG targets are currently on track or making moderate progress, while nearly half are moving too slowly and 18 per cent are trending backwards. The report highlights the profound impact of overlapping crises, including conflict, climate change, economic instability and rising debt burdens, which continue to strain countries’ ability to invest in essential services and long-term development. Extreme poverty is rising again in several regions, global hunger remains above pre pandemic levels, and inequality continues to widen within and across countries. Meanwhile, climate indicators are worsening at an alarming pace, with 2024 recorded as the hottest year to date and mounting pressures on ecosystems, water systems and biodiversity. Despite these challenges, the report underscores that transformation is still possible. It identifies six pivotal transitions—food systems, energy, digital connectivity, education, jobs and social protection, and climate and biodiversity—that, if accelerated, can unlock progress across the Goals. Achieving this requires renewed political will, scaled financing, stronger multilateral cooperation and robust national data systems to guide evidence based decision making. The 2025 report ultimately reinforces that while the SDGs remain within reach, decisive action in this final window is essential to deliver a sustainable and inclusive future for all.
